Unilateral non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the frontal sinus presenting as Pott's puffy tumour
In conclusion, it is not easy to differentiate Pott's puffy tumour from frontal sinus lymphoma at their initial presentation. With clearer understanding of both conditions, we can raise the index of suspicion among clinicians of the possibility of frontal sinus lymphoma even when evidence of osteomyelitis is present, therefore prompting earlier tissue biopsies for confirmation of diagnosis. N-acetyl-β-hexosaminidase in chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy
Conclusions: Our data demonstrate the presence of HEX in palatine tonsils and indicate on significant increase of its concentration and specific activity. Based on content and specific HEX activity we suggest that tonsils with hypertrophy and chronic tonsillitis should be treated as identical unit irrespectively of age. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

Role of adenotonsillectomy in OSAS children and behavioural disturbance
Conclusion Adenoids/tonsils hypertrophy and nasal hypoventilation are frequent causes of snoring and OSAS. AT improves significantly both snoring/apnoeas and OSAS children's behavioural disturbances. Polysomnography cannot be carried out routinely due to the lack of specialised centres and because of its excessive cost. Nasal functionality tests can be useful for the differential diagnosis between sleep apnoea syndrome and other noises. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

CUP-Syndrome diagnostic procedure scheme
Publication date: July–August 2013 Source:Otolaryngologia Polska, Volume 67, Issue 4 Author(s): Zuzanna Pujanek , Paweł K. Burduk Patients with CUP-Syndrome represent a small percentage of patients treated by ENT doctor. Often, in spite of the implementation detailed diagnostics, detection of the primary tumor fails. Very important element is to follow the correct sequence of tests and taking into account conditions outside ENT. I our article, we would like to propose a diagnostic scheme including interview with patient, laryngological and imaging tests and multi-disciplinary consulting. We hope that this scheme w...

ENT manifestations of Wegeners granulomatosis
We present two cases of Wegener's presenting with otological manifestations as the first symptom. These symptoms are subtle and diagnosis may be easily overlooked. Hence a high index of suspicion is required. Early diagnosis and treatment goes a long way in improving the outcomes and in preventing further complications. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

Value of high resolution ultrasonography in assessment of laryngeal lesions
Conclusion: Rigid endoscopy in laryngeal examination gives us large, bright image but it is difficult to diagnose patients with a sensitive gag reflex, patients with neck or jaw diseases or stridor and very difficult in infants and children. HRUS is an alternative method in diagnosis of some laryngeal lesions, and it is superior in the diagnosis of small subglottic lesions. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

Aneurysmal bone cyst of maxilla with ectopic molar tooth – A case report
We report a case of giant aneurysmal bone cyst of maxilla in eight-year-old male with ectopic molar tooth within the cyst. Is endoscopic excision possible? Endoscopic excision of the cyst was done successfully and no recurrence was noted even after 1 year of follow up. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

Intralaryngeal ectopic thyroid
We report a case of 59 years old woman with a history of progressive dyspnea and nodular thyroid goiter. Endoscopic examination revealed subglottic smooth tumor of the right side of the larynx. CT scans revealed mass localized in infraglottic part of the larynx, causing infraglottic stenosis. The biopsy of the tumor revealed: Struma nodosa. Reviewing the literature we found only seven cases described. We present development of the thyroid gland and origins causing ectopy. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

Leiomyosarcoma of the external ear – Case report
We report a case of 78-year-old man with tumor of the auricle that was resected with 0.7cm margin. Histological and immunohistochemical analysis revealed the leiomyosarcoma. Adjuvant therapy was not advised. During 3 years of follow-up there are no signs of recurrence. Review of the literature shows that the survival of patients with leiomyosarcoma in head and neck region seems to be similar to other kinds of sarcomas in this localization. It is not clear, how large surgical margins should be to achieve satisfactory local control. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)

The activity of N-acetyl-β-d-hexosaminidase A and B and β-glucuronidase in nasal polyps and hypertrophic nasal concha
Conclusions: Decrease in the activity and specific activity concentration of the majority of examined lysosomal exoglycosidases (increasing in inflammations) in comparison to hypertrophic lower nasal conchae suggests electrolytes disorders and questions the inflammatory background of nasal polyps. Unilateral pathological lesions of paranasal sinuses removed by endoscopic surgery
Conclusions Unilateral paranasal pathological lesions, leaving aside rather typical maxillary sinus cysts, require a particularly thorough pre-operative diagnosis and a precise histopathological assessment. (Source: Otolaryngologia Polska)
