Complementary Role of CMR to Conventional Screening in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Cardiac Sarcoidosis
Conclusions Of all cardiac tests, CMR was the most valuable in the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiac sarcoidosis in a general sarcoidosis population. Echocardiography had an overall limited diagnostic value as a screening test, and an abnormal study, despite a high positive predictive value, may still need confirmation with CMR. Functional Implication of Mitral Annular Disjunction in Mitral Valve Prolapse: A Quantitative Dynamic 3D Echocardiographic Study
Conclusions MAD is a common anatomic abnormality in MVP. The disjunctive annulus is decoupled functionally from the ventricle, leading to paradoxical annular dynamics with systolic expansion and flattening, and may thus require specific intervention. Doppler Echocardiography for the Estimation of LV Filling Pressure in Patients With Mitral Annular Calcification
Conclusions The E/e' ratio should not be used to estimate LVFP in subjects with significant MAC. However, mitral E/A ratio and IVRT are useful predictors of LVFP in this patient population. The proposed decision algorithm combining these Doppler parameters is accurate in estimating LVFP in patients with MAC. (Source: Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging)

Cardiac Tissue Characterization and Imaging in Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases
Abstract Inflammation, microvascular and macrovascular ischemia, valvular disease, and fibrosis are the main causes of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs). The silent presentation and the high mortality and/or morbidity of CVD in ARDs necessitate a reliable tool for early diagnosis. Noninvasive cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography, nuclear imaging, cardiovascular computed tomography (CT), cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), and hybrid imaging modalities, constitutes the main tool for monitoring of CVD in ARDs. Echocardiography is the cornerstone for CVD evaluation, but it is ope...

Role of Exercise Testing in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
Abstract Over the last 25 years, patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) have been studied with a variety of methods employing physiological exercise that have made major contributions to disease management and are performed without increased risk. Previously under-utilized in HCM, exercise (stress) echocardiography has become incorporated into the standard clinical assessment and diagnostic armamentarium of HCM using upright or supine symptom-limited treadmill or bicycle modalities. In patients without outflow gradients at rest, exercise echocardiography is the most appropriate method for provoking obstructio...
