Infratemporal fossa infection with inferior alveolar nerve involvement
Abscess of the infratemporal fossa is a rare complication which can be difficult to diagnose. It occurs mostly due to dental infection, tooth extraction, fractures and/or infections involving the maxillary sinus. This condition can be life threatening if not dealt with immediately. The maxillofacial surgeon must be aware of the symptoms and clinical findings of the infection of the infratemporal fossa in order to initiate the treatment as soon as possible. In this case report, a patient with an infratemporal fossa infection presenting with an unusual symptom of inferior alveolar nerve involvement is presented. (Source: Jou...

Clinical evaluation of the stability of implants placed at different supracrestal levels
Conclusion: Our results suggest that submerging implant more inside bone may only influence primary stability. Moreover, the implant diameter and site of placement influence primary and secondary stability before loading, whereas the implant length does not when its diameter is not accounted for. Effects of thermocycling and various drinks on color stability of heat-polymerized acrylic resin
Conclusion: These results suggest that the color stability of denture base acrylic resins is influenced by ageing. Black tea, sour cherry juice and coke can cause significant discolorations on acrylic resin denture bases. (Source: Journal of Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry)

Comparison of cone beam computed tomography and panoramic radiographs in detecting maxillary sinus septa
Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated the low reliability of panoramic radiography images in the detection of maxillary sinus septa. CBCT images can provide valuable information to the clinicians about the presence and location of maxillary sinus septa. (Source: Journal of Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry)

Mandibular incisor extraction: a 5-year follow-up
This case report presents the mandibular incisor extraction treatment of a patient with dental Class I malocclusion and lower crowding, in which one mandibular incisor extraction was selected as the treatment of choice to improve the dental occlusion. A 19-year-old male patient ’s chief complaint was the crowding of lower incisors. He had a straight profile with normal upper and lower lip projection. Upper and lower dental midlines were coincident with the facial midline. The patient had Class I molar and canine relationships on both sides. Etiologic factors and clinical evaluation of restored fractured anterior teeth: an observational study
Conclusion: In this short-term observation period, remaining tooth structure was conserved and good patient compliance was achieved. Factors such as esthetic and/or cost should be considered to indicate the direct composite restorations. (Source: Journal of Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry)

Potential hazards due to food additives in oral hygiene products
Food additives used to preserve flavor or to enhance the taste and appearance of foods are also available in oral hygiene products. The aimof this review is to provide information concerning food additives in oral hygiene products and their adverse effects. A great many of food additives inoral hygiene products are potential allergens and they may lead to allergic reactions such as urticaria, contact dermatitis, rhinitis, and angioedema. Dental practitioners, as well as health care providers, must be aware of the possibility of allergic reactions due to food additives in oral hygiene products. Proper dosage levels, deliver...

Desquamative gingivitis : a review
Desquamative gingivitis (DG) is characterized by the erythematous gingiva, desquamation and erosion of the gingival epithelium, and blister formation. It is a common clinical manifestation in several diseases. Contact allergic reactions to various oral hygiene products and chemical agents have also been reported to represent as DG. The management of DG has been a major problem, largely because the etiology of the disease has been elusive. In this paper, we aimed to review the current literature on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, management and prognosis of DG. (Source: Journal of Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry)

Oral manifestations and prosthetic rehabilitation in hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy (hsan) type iv: a case report
Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies (HSAN) are rare genetic syndromes of unknown etiology. They are seen in early childhood and categorized in six different types by their symptoms. HSAN type 4 has an autosomal recessive transmission, with such major characteristics as loss of sense of pain, self-mutilation, anhydrosis and mental retardation. Sympathetic innervations are deficient despite the existence of sweat glands. Sufferers are hypotonic without any tendon reflexes, and neuro-motor development is retarded. In some cases tactile sensation and vibration may be intact. Biting injuries due to lack of pain sensat...

Peripheral osteoma of the hard palate: a rare case report and literature review
Osteomas are benign osteogenic tumors that are composed of cancellous or compact bone. They are usually sessile tumours composed of dense sclerotic, well-formed bone projecting out from the cortical surface. They commonly occur in skull and facial bones, however, excluding the maxillary sinuses, the maxilla is a rare site for osteomas. Therefore, we aim to present a case of maxillary osteoma in a 19-year-old male patient and to provide an overview of current literature on the diagnostic options and treatment modalities. To best of our knowledge, in the English literature, this is the seventh reported case of maxillary oste...
