Detection of extended spectrum beta-lactamases in escherichia coli from cage birds
The objective of this research study was to determine the prevalence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) producing Escherichia coli, in various pet bird s in Hatay, Turkey. The 4 bacterial isolates obtained displayed different frequencies of antimicrobial susceptibility amongst 18 antibiotics. The four E. coli isolates were classified as group B1 based on phylogenetic analysis. (Source: Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine)

Adrenalectomy and nephrectomy in a rabbit (oryctolagus cuniculus) with adrenocortical carcinoma and renal and ureteral transitional cell carcinoma
A 9-year-old neutered male rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) previously diagnosed with right nephromegaly was presented with increased sexual behavior associated with hypertestosteronemia. Left adrenomegaly and an obstructive mass in the right renal pelvis and proximal ureter leading to severe hydronephrosis of the right kidney were diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound. A left adrenalectomy and right nephrectomy were performed and samples were submitted for histopathology, confirming the diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma and a transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter and renal pelvis. The following details were recorded for all companion animals that were sedated or anesthetized: the procedure date, the species, whether the animal was sedated o...

Liquid nitrogen cryosurgery for a chromatophoroma in a captive largemouth bass (micropterus salmoides)
Chromatophoromas are a common, pigmented malignant tumor that originates from dermochromatophores normally found in the skin of amphibians, reptiles, and fish. Chromatophoromas are typically locally aggressive and can appear as unsightly exudative masses. Effective treatment options in fish are limited mostly to surgical excision. An alternative approach to traditional surgical excision is liquid nitrogen cryosurgery. An adult (3.63 kilograms) largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), housed in a mixed teleost species tank presented with a history of inappetence of 14 days duration and two visible cutaneous skin lesions. (S...
