Mineral Trioxide Aggregate may be the most effective direct pulp capping material
ConclusionsMTA was more effective than CH at hard-tissue barrier formation, and MTA had better effects than CH in capping mechanical pulp exposures. The use of a bonding agent as a pulp capping material produced inferior results compared to CH. More RCTs with larger sample sizes should be conducted to further strengthen these conclusions, and future studies should also test the quality of dentinal bridges formed, not only the positive or negative presence. Periodontitis may be associated with chronic kidney disease but evidence on causal association is limited
ConclusionsThe authors concluded that the evidence supports a non-directional association between periodontitis and CKD. It was emphasized that the evidence on a directional association is sparse. Future investigations using prospective studies with representative samples and longer follow-up periods are required. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Silver Diamine Fluoride may prevent and arrest root caries in older adults
ConclusionsThe authors concluded that annual applications of 38% SDF in older adults decreased the incidence of new carious lesions in exposed root surfaces by at least 50%; in addition, the longer the duration of the intervention, the greater was the effect. The preventive effect of SDF for root caries is similar to that of 5% FV and 1% CHX varnish. Further research is needed to replicate these findings and to determine the best frequency and interval of SDF applications. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Ceramic and metal-ceramic restorations for implant-supported prostheses showed similar complications and failure rate
ConclusionThe reviewers suggested that the ceramic and metal-ceramic implant-supported prostheses have similar mechanical and biological complication rates, prosthesis survival rates, and marginal bone loss values. Thus, both treatments are appropriate options for long-term rehabilitation treatment. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Resin infiltration may reduce proximal carious lesion progression in permanent teeth with ongoing uncertainty for primary teeth
ConclusionFurther studies are needed before supporting resin infiltration for primary teeth, as the evidence quality was low and study heterogeneity precluded data synthesis. For permanent teeth, the evidence quality was low to moderate with evidence supporting resin infiltration combined with preventive approaches to stop progression of proximal lesions compared to preventive approaches alone. Tunneling Technique in Conjunction with Autogenous Graft or Graft Substitutes is a Predictable Surgical Approach to Achieve Root Coverage in Isolated or Multiple Gingival Recession Defects
ConclusionsTUN is a predictable surgical procedure for achieving root coverage in localized or multiple GR defects. When compared to TUN, CAF was associated with higher CRC, when the same graft (CTG or ADM) was used in both the techniques. No published study that directly compared CAF with TUN without any adjunctive grafts or its substitutes was identified. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Clear aligner therapy might provide a better oral health environment for orthodontic treatment among patients at increased periodontal risk
ConclusionsPeriodontal response among clear aligner patients was better than among those using fixed orthodontic appliances. Hence, clear aligners may be recommended for patients with a higher risk of developing gingivitis. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

In vivo and in vitro comparison of internal and marginal fit of digital and conventional impressions for full-coverage fixed restorations: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsDifferences in marginal adaptation between the digital and conventional groups are not significant for in-vivo studies, but for in-vitro studies, digital impression resulted in better marginal adaptation. Based on the GRADE approach for marginal adaptation, clinical studies were classified as high confidence and in-vitro studies was graded moderate due to the inconsistency. Furthermore, high-quality studies are needed to confirm our results (PROSPERO; CRD42017077925). (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Increasing the Value of Orthodontic Research Through the Use of Dental Patient-Reported Outcomes
Publication date: Available online 19 April 2019Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental PracticeAuthor(s): Fang HuaAbstractTen years ago, Chalmers and Glasziou pointed out in Lancet that 85% of all biomedical research was being avoidably wasted due to imbalanced research question / outcome selection, as well as poor study design, execution and reporting. According to findings of recent “research on research” studies, a high level of such kind of avoidable waste should also exist in orthodontic research. This warrants efforts to improve each stage of the research production and reporting process. (Source: Journal of Ev...

Dislodgment resistance of bioceramic and epoxy sealers: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe epoxy-resin based sealer presented with a higher push-out bond strength in comparison with paste-to-paste calcium silicate-based root canal sealer regardless of the root third assessed. In addition, the epoxy-resin based sealer exhibited an increased push-out bond strength in comparison with premixed ready-to-use calcium-silicate based root canal sealer when evaluating the middle third. Effects of Electronic Cigarettes on Oral Cavity: A Systematic Review
ConclusionThe results suggest that electronic cigarettes are less harmful compared to conventional cigarettes. However, there is also a greater susceptibility of electronic cigarette consumers to developing alterations in oral biological tissues compared to ex-smokers or non-smokers. There is still a clear need for the development of new studies. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)

Skeletal Stability After Mandibular Counterclockwise Rotational Advancement for Correction of Skeletal Class II Deformity—A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionsMeta-analysis showed mandibular CCW rotational advancement is a stable procedure, both horizontally and vertically. However, the conclusions are far from robust due to the small sample size and poor quality of the reviewed studies. (Source: Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice)
