Review and analysis of safety policies of chemical journals
In this study, we examined 726 chemistry journals from 28 publishers to determine if they require the author to mention safety precautions. Journals supply information for authors that generally mention safety in two places. In the guidelines for authors, which are widely read by prospective contributors, 8% mention safety. Most journals have ethics guidelines of which 59% mention safety. In order to determine the effectiveness of safety policies 100 articles from each of six journals that published research that involved extensive syntheses were selected. The results of the search indicated that the target compounds were ...

The efficacy of Safety Data Sheets in informing risk based decision making: A review of the aerospace sector
This study assesses and creates an awareness of the quality of Safety Data Sheets and establishes the criteria for ranking the quality of various sections in the SDS. 200 Safety Data Sheets have been selected from the aerospace sector and assessed for their quality. A review of the 200 SDS has identified significant statistical differences between the various sections of the SDS and the quality of information between hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals. The data analysis suggests a limited impact of GHS and REACH, Annex II Regulations on the overall quality of content of the Safety Data Sheets. (Source: Journal of Chemic...

Enhancing the regulatory framework for upstream chemicals management in Malaysia: Some proposals from an academic perspective
Publication date: Available online 26 September 2015 Source:Journal of Chemical Health and Safety Author(s): Goh Choo Ta, Chan Kok Meng, Mazlin Bin Mokhtar, Lee Khai Ern, Mohamad Mahathir Amir Sultan, Nur Liyana Ali In 2009, the Department of Environment (DOE) implemented the Environmentally Hazardous Substances (EHS) Notification and Registration Scheme aimed at strengthening upstream chemicals management by first collecting data on chemicals that are either imported to or manufactured in Malaysia. However, we noticed that this voluntary scheme was developed merely to collect data on chemicals and there is...
