Publication date: Available online 24 November 2018Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint SurgeryAuthor(s): Meenakshi Jolly, Asha Patnaik, Courtney O'Brien, Anupam Basu, Augustine ManadanAbstractDifferential diagnosis for inflammatory arthritis of the hands includes infectious processes and autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and crystalline arthritis, among others. As medical management of the inflammatory arthritis is (a) targeted to the specific disease and severity of the symptoms, (b) posed with diagnostic dilemmas due to overlap in presentation, and (c) adversely affected ...

Comparative evaluation of periarticular infiltration of two cocktail regimens for analgesia in post-operative patients of total knee replacement
ConclusionBoth the cocktail regimens are effective in pain control postoperatively. The relief in pain with regimen B containing bupivacaine, fentanyl, methylprednisolone and cefuroxime was more striking in the first 24 h. By the end of two days, both regimens were found to be equally effective. (Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery)

Accuracy of Schottle's point location by palpation and its role in clinical outcome after medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction
ConclusionPlacement of the femoral tunnel over the medial femoral condyle by the palpatory method is accurate in close to 2/3rd of the cases only whereas rest 1/3rd may fall outside the acceptable position. Hence, it is recommended to confirm the placement of femoral tunnel with intraoperative fluoroscopy at the acceptable position to avoid error.Level of studyRetrospective case series, level IV. A prospective comparative study between intravenous and intraarticular tranexamic acid administration in decreasing the perioperative blood loss in total knee arthroplasty
ConclusionsBoth intravenous as well as intraarticular administration of tranexamic acid provided excellent results no known adverse effects. However neither of the two modalities should be considered superior to the other. (Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery)

A comparative study on functional outcome of ACL reconstruction: Quadriceps versus hamstring tendon autograft
ConclusionOur study shows no statistical significant difference between quadriceps and hamstring tendon autograft groups at 2 years follow up following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. This shows our hypothesis was correct. (Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery)

Functional outcome of patellar resurfacing vs non resurfacing in Total Knee Arthoplasty in elderly: A prospective five year follow-up study
ConclusionA similar knee evaluation score was observed in both RS and NRS groups after 5 year of follow up. However, it appears that non-resurfacing had shown marginally better scores than resurfacing group. (Source: Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery)

Potential damage to the femoral neurovasculature during approach to the hip
We examined the course of the femoral neurovasculature about the hip to identify safest location for retractor insertion and furthermore demographic populations who are at-risk for injury due to a decreased distance between the hip joint and the femoral neurovasculature.MethodsA total of 100 non-pathologic hip magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies from adult patients were included. Patients were chosen at random from our medical center's digital radiographic archive and their demographic data recorded. Mean distances between the anterior acetabular wall and the femoral artery were measured at three axial levels (acetabu...
