Ehlers –Danlos syndrome in a young woman with anorexia nervosa and complex somatic symptoms
We present a case of comorbid anorexia nervosa and EDS in a 23‐year old woman with a multitude of somatic symptoms that were initially attributed to the eating disorder but that were likely caused by the underlying EDS. Various EDS symptoms, such as gastrointestinal complaints, smell and taste abnormalities, and altered somatosensory awareness may resemble or mask an underlying eating disorder, and vice versa. Because of the large clinical heterogeneity, correctly identifying symptoms of EDS presents a challenge for clinicians, who should be aware of this group of underdiagnosed and potentially serious syndromes. The Bei...

Disturbance of gut satiety peptide in purging disorder
This study comes from a series of nested studies examining ingestive behaviors in bulimic syndromes and specifically evaluated the satiety peptide YY (PYY) and the hunger peptide ghrelin in women with PD (n = 25), bulimia nervosa‐purging (BNp) (n = 26), and controls (n = 26). Based on distinct subjective responses to a fixed meal in PD (Keel, Wolfe, Liddle, DeYoung, & Jimerson, ), we tested whether postprandial PYY response was significantly greater and ghrelin levels significantly lower in women with PD compared to controls and women with BNp. MethodParticipants completed structured clinical interviews, ...

Reliability and validity of the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale ‐12: Attachment dimensions in a clinical sample with eating disorders
DiscussionOur results provide preliminary evidence of the psychometric properties of ECR‐12 in assessing attachment anxiety and avoidance among patients with EDs. This short scale could help clinicians tailor interventions for EDs that take into account attachment dimensions. (Source: International Journal of Eating Disorders)

Reducing the stigma associated with anorexia nervosa: An evaluation of a social consensus intervention among Australian and Chinese young women
This study examined the effectiveness of a social consensus intervention in reducing stigma toward individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) among women from Australia and mainland China. Moreover, the different predictions of informational/normative social influence theory and the social identity approach in terms of the effectiveness of the social consensus intervention were investigated. MethodParticipants were female students from the Australian National University (n = 97) and Central China Normal University (n = 76) who reported their levels of stigma toward a fictional character with AN before and after receivi...

Characterization and correlates of exercise among adolescents with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
DiscussionAdolescents with AN, atypical AN, and BN reported high levels of exercise. Females reported more team sport participation. Greater exercise frequency and team sport participation were associated with bradycardia. Further studies assessing the relationship between exercise and bradycardia may help inform the medical management of adolescents with these eating disorders who are more physically active. Early childhood adversities and risk of eating disorders in women: A Danish register ‐based cohort study
DiscussionOur findings indicate that childhood adversities appear to be associated with an increased risk of BN and in particular EDNOS, whereas they seem to be either unassociated or associated with a decreased risk of AN. (Source: International Journal of Eating Disorders)

Eating pathology in midlife women: Similar or different to younger counterparts?
This study examined potential similarities and differences between women with eating disorders (EDs) in midlife and their younger counterparts. MethodSeven hundred and three women assessed by a specialist eating disorder service were divided into three groups based on age (18–25, 25–40, and 40+) and compared on a number of clinical and demographic measures. Distribution of ED diagnoses was also examined between groups. ResultsMidlife women were less likely to receive a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa and more likely to receive a diagnosis of binge‐eating disorder than their younger counterparts. Duration of illness was...

The effect of dronabinol in a male patient with anorexia nervosa suffering from severe acute urge to be physically active
DiscussionPrevious studies have applied much lower doses and showed no effect of dronabinol upon the urge to be physically active. Up to date, the patient reported no side effects, especially no psychotropic effects. Implications of this case report are discussed. (Source: International Journal of Eating Disorders)

Perceptions of general and postpresidential election discrimination are associated with loss of control eating among racially/ethnically diverse young men
DiscussionLOC eating may partially explain known associations between discrimination and heightened risk for obesity and chronic diseases among African American and Hispanic/Latino men. Asian/Asian American men's LOC eating may be linked to postpresidential election and general experiences with racial discrimination, particularly if they report a low sense of belonging to their ethnic group. Gut microbiota and body composition in anorexia nervosa inpatients in comparison to athletes, overweight, obese, and normal weight controls
This study provides further evidence of intestinal dysbiosis in AN and sheds light on characteristics of the gut microbiome in different BMI and physical activity groups. These insights point to new modulation possibilities of the gut microbiota which could improve the standard therapy of AN. (Source: International Journal of Eating Disorders)

Normal white matter microstructure in women long ‐term recovered from anorexia nervosa: A diffusion tensor imaging study
This study aimed to investigate the presence of WM microstructure alterations in women long‐term recovered from AN. MethodTwenty‐one adult women who were recovered from AN for at least 1 year were compared to 21 adult comparison women. Participants were recruited via user‐organizations for eating disorders, local advertisements, and online forums. Diffusion tensor imaging was used to compare WM microstructure between groups. Correlations between WM microstructure and clinical characteristics were also explored. ResultsThere were no statistically significant between‐group differences in WM microstructure. These nul...
