Immediately loaded distally cantilevered fixed mandibular prostheses supported by four implants placed in both in fresh extraction and healed sites: 2-year results from a prospective study.
Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, immediately loaded full-arch prostheses can be supported by four implants placed simultaneously into healed and fresh extraction sites. Conflict of interest statement: Prof Gerald Krennmair was supported by a grant from Camlog Foundation to conduct this research. Immediate functional loading of single implants: A 1-year interim report of a 5-year prospective multicentre study.
Conclusions: Within its limit (limited number of patients treated and self-evaluation of the outcomes), this study supports the concept that immediate functional loading of single dental implants can be a successful treatment procedure, with satisfactory clinical outcomes. Conflict-of-interest statement: MegaGen Implant Co., Gyeongbuk, South Korea, the manufacturer of the implants used in this investigation, partially supported this study by donating the implants and prosthetic components; however, the research data belonged to the authors and by no means did Megagen interfere with the conduct of the study or the publicati...

A systematic review of implant-supported overdentures in the edentulous maxilla, compared to the mandible: How many implants?
Conclusions: An implant-supported maxillary overdenture (all studies ≥ 4 implants) provided with a splinted anchorage is accompanied with a high implant and overdenture survival rate (both >95% per year), while there is an increased risk of implant loss when ≤ 4 implants with a non-splinted anchorage are used. Conflict-of-interest statement: None declared. Funding: The study was funded by the authors' university department. Autogenous bone harvesting and grafting in advanced jaw resorption: Morbidity, resorption and implant survival.
Conclusions: Dependent on the required graft structure and amount of bone needed, ramus grafts, block bone grafts from the posterior iliac crest and cancellous bone grafts harvested with a trephine from the anterior iliac crest should be chosen. Conflict-of-interest statement: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest. PMID: 24977256 [PubMed - in process] (Source: European Journal of Oral Implantology)

Augmentation procedures using bone substitute materials or autogenous bone - a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: Within the limitation of the meta-analytical approach taken, implant survival seems to be independent of the biomaterial used in MSFA and alveolar ridge augmentation. Therefore, based on the current literature, there is no evidence that AB is superior to BSM. The conclusions are limited by the fact that influence of defect size, augmented volume and regenerative capacity of the defects is not well described in the respective literature. Conflict of interest statement: There are no commercial or other associations that might create a duality of interests in connection with the article. PMID: 24977257 [...

Surgical treatment of single gingival recessions: Clinical guidelines.
Conclusion: In presence of aesthetic demands or tooth hypersensitivity, the best way to surgically treat single gingival recessions without loss of interproximal tissues is achieved using the CAF procedure associated with CTG. Considering postoperative discomfort, the CAF procedure is the less painful surgical approach, while the level of aesthetic satisfaction resulted higher after CAF either alone or with CTG. It is unclear how much tooth hypersensitivity is reduced by surgically covering buccal recessions. It is important to note that the present recommendations are based on short-term data (less than 1 year). Source of...

Three-year post-loading results of a randomised, controlled, split-mouth trial comparing implants with different prosthetic interfaces and design in partially posterior edentulous mandibles.
Conclusion: The results of this research suggest that in well-maintained patients, the MBL changes could be affected by the different implant design. After 4 months of unloaded healing, as well as after 3 years in function, both implants provided good results, however vertical and horizontal bone loss had statistically significant differences between the two groups (difference of 0.58 ± 0.10 mm for the vertical MBL, and 0.4 ± 0.05 mm for the horizontal MBL), with lower values in the Nobel Active implants, compared to the NobelSpeedy Groovy implants. 1-stage versus 2-stage lateral sinus lift procedures: 1-year post-loading results of a multicentre randomised controlled trial.
Conclusion: No statistically significant differences were observed between implants placed according to 1- or 2-stage sinus lift procedures. However this study may suggest that in patients having residual bone height between 1 to 3 mm below the maxillary sinus, there might be a slightly higher risk for implant failures when performing a 1-stage lateral sinus lift procedure. Immediate loading of two flapless placed mandibular implants supporting cross-arch fixed prostheses: A 3-year follow-up prospective single cohort study.
Conclusion: Immediately loaded mandibular cross-arch partial dentures can be supported by only two dental implants up to 3 years. Longer follow-ups (around 10 years) are needed to know the prognosis of this treatment modality. PMID: 24892116 [PubMed - in process] (Source: European Journal of Oral Implantology)
