Durability of bioprostheses for the tricuspid valve in patients with congenital heart disease [CONGENITAL]
CONCLUSIONS
Serial echocardiography shows a high rate of dysfunction of TV bioprosthesis in patients with CHD, which already occurred a few years after implantation. In patients below 16 years of age, most prostheses are dysfunctional within 5 years. (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Reduction of ischaemia-reperfusion injury in a rat lung transplantation model by low-concentration GV1001 [EXPERIMENTAL]
CONCLUSIONS
Adding a low concentration of GV1001 to the lung preservation solution (Perfadex) provided potential protective effects against IR injury after lung transplantation in rats. Therefore, GV1001 should be considered as a promising anti-inflammatory agent for IR injury. (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Low-flow lower body perfusion for spinal protection in a frozen elephant trunk simulation model [EXPERIMENTAL]
CONCLUSION
The prolonged SCP provides an insufficient lumbar spinal cord protection during the FET procedure at 28°C. The use of a low-flow LBP in addition to SCP may reduce functional and structural spinal damage. (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

An experimental investigation of the impact of thoracic endovascular aortic repair on longitudinal strain [EXPERIMENTAL]
CONCLUSIONS
This experimental study showed that TEVAR acutely stiffens the aorta in the longitudinal direction and thereby induces a strain mismatch, while tensile testing confirmed that longitudinal aortic fragments are most prone to rupture, particularly close to the arch. Such an acute strain mismatch of potentially vulnerable tissue might play a role in TEVAR-related complications, including retrograde dissection and aneurysm formation. The finding that TEVAR stiffens the aorta longitudinally may also shed light on systemic complications following TEVAR, such as hypertension and cardiac remodelling. These observations ...

Moderate hypothermia >=24 and
CONCLUSIONS
Moderate hypothermia for HCA during ACP is being used with increasing frequency, but has not been thoroughly evaluated in patients undergoing cardiovascular reoperations. Our experience suggests that in patients with previous cardiac surgery who are undergoing hemiarch and total aortic arch operations, moderate hypothermia is safe and produces respectable results. Total aortic arch repair: risk factor analysis and follow-up in 199 patients [AORTIC SURGERY]
CONCLUSIONS
Aortic arch repair remains a high-risk procedure, especially in multisegment aortic disease. Several peri- and postoperative factors predicted adverse outcome, indicating the need to further improve perioperative management (e.g. organ protection). Indications for FET treatment have to be thoroughly investigated (e.g. FET in CDs). (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum in adults: long-term results in a prospective observational study [THORACIC]
CONCLUSION
Our results demonstrate that the Nuss procedure is safe and can be performed with excellent results in adults, both in the short term and in the long term. The improved quality of life and patients' satisfaction with cosmetic results remained high in the long-term follow-up, 10 years after the surgical procedure. Spontaneous ventilation anaesthesia: total intravenous anaesthesia with local anaesthesia or thoracic epidural anaesthesia for thoracoscopic bullectomy [THORACIC]
CONCLUSIONS
SV-VATS bullectomy using TIVA with LA or TEA is technically feasible and safe. Both groups have comparable short-term outcomes and recurrence rates; TIVA-LA seems a valid alternative to TIVA-TEA for the surgical management of PSP under SV. (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

The impact of non-intubated versus intubated anaesthesia on early outcomes of video-assisted thoracoscopic anatomical resection in non-small-cell lung cancer: a propensity score matching analysis [THORACIC]
CONCLUSIONS
In this study, VATS anatomical resection for NSCLC patients is feasible under NIIASV. Perioperative data comparisons with IASLV have shown that postoperative fasting time, overall drainage volume and hospital stay were significantly better with NIIASV, suggesting a more rapid recovery. Further investigation is warranted to assess the long-term effects and survival of this promising globally less invasive surgical strategy. (Source: European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Association of maximum standardized uptake value with occult mediastinal lymph node metastases in cN0 non-small cell lung cancer [THORACIC]
CONCLUSIONS
The SUVmax of the primary tumour was an independent risk factor for occult N2 metastases in NSCLC patients diagnosed as clinical N0 by PET–CT. SUVmax of ≥2.6 of the primary tumour may indicate the risk of N2 metastases, and invasive mediastinal staging techniques or comprehensive therapy should not be ignored in these patients.
