Atrial fibrillation, oral anticoagulants and health related quality of life
Conclusion NOAC usage correlates with the best health related quality of life scores, gaining a statistically significant difference compared to warfarin users in physical functioning (warfarin – 95.85, NOACs – 124.57; p =0.012) and social functioning mean ranks (warfarin – 95.16, NOACs – 119.08; p =0.026). Age had low negative correlation with physical functioning scores. (Source: Cor et Vasa)

Panvascular disease – Epidemiology and prevention
Publication date: Available online 7 January 2018 Source:Cor et Vasa Author(s): Ileana Desormais, Charalambos Vlachopoulos, Victor Aboyans Atherosclerosis is a progressive, general disease, affecting all arterial beds. Atherosclerosis starts in the youth [1] and aggravates in time, more or less quickly, according to the associated risk factors and genetic background. The simultaneous presence of clinically relevant atherosclerotic lesions in at least two major vascular territories defines the multisite artery disease or panvascular disease (PVD). This represents the situations where ischaemic symptoms are present, con...

In the Czech Republic, they account for a high proportion of hospitalizations. Although such diseases can be very well influenced through elimination of influenceable risk factors, their prevalence in the Czech population is still high. That leads to rising need to increase the efficiency of heal...

HIV as a risk factor of coronary artery disease and of acute coronary syndrome
Publication date: December 2017 Source:Cor et Vasa, Volume 59, Issue 6 Author(s): Petra Kupková, Marcel Heczko, Vladimír Kaučák, Radim Kryza The number of HIV positive patients in the developed and developing countries is ever growing. Apart from the obvious implications of HIV such as AIDS development, other potentially lethal complications may arise, one of which is the effect of HIV affliction on the coronary system. HIV patients may develop coronary artery disease at a very young age and the myocardial infarction in these patients can be hard to correctly diagnose at the beginning due to the often confusing c...

Surgical resection of occluded abdominal stent graft followed by aorto-bi-iliac vascular reconstruction with Intergard Synergy vascular prosthesis
Conclusion When endovascular treatments of stent grafts’ branch occlusion fail, surgical treatment, despite its higher perioperative risks and technical challenges, remains the only treatment option. (Source: Cor et Vasa)

Impact of radial and femoral access on radiation dose and fluorography time in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Conclusion We found that the radiation dose was lower in femorally accessed group. Although radiation dose is not the main concern in patients with acute coronary syndromes, our results suggest that femoral access can be preferred over radial access in certain situations. (Source: Cor et Vasa)

Cardiac arrest in patient with significant pulmonary regurgitation after surgical valvulotomy at 10 years of age for isolated pulmonary stenosis
We present the case of a 46-year-old man with gradually progressing pulmonary regurgitation after surgical valvulotomy at 10 years of age. Despite regular follow-ups by the cardiologist, the patient was never referred to a specialized centre and cardiac arrest caused by ventricular fibrillation occurred after physical exercise.
