Have reducing tonsillectomy rates in England led to increasing incidence of invasive Group A Streptococcus infections in children?
ConclusionsThere appears to be a correlation between falling tonsillectomy numbers, increasing hospital admissions with tonsillitis and rising iGAS infection in England. Further studies are required to assess the aetiological role of tonsillitis in predisposing to iGAS infection and the potential societal benefit of tonsillectomies. This article is protected by copyright. Assessing normal values for the FACE ‐Q Rhinoplasty module: an observational study
ConclusionThis is the first study to generate normative data for the FACE‐Q rhinoplasty module. The findings presented here have important implications for future clinical care and research. The definition of a normal score can help practitioners to better analyze their patients and to support a therapeutic indication. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Evaluation of an Abutment ‐level SuperPower Sound Processor for Bone‐Anchored Hearing
ConclusionsThe lower speech reception thresholds in noise with BCD2 relative to BCD1 can be attributed to the ‘speech‐omni’ directionality mode of BCD2. The combination of an improved directionality for primarily low‐level inputs and a higher maximum force output, relevant for mid and high‐level inputs, results in a clear preference for BCD2 over BCD1.This article is protected by copyright. Voice quality outcomes of idiopathic Parkinson disease medical treatment: a systematic review
ConclusionThe majority of studies supported that VQ assessments remain useful as outcome measures of the effectiveness of medical treatment and could be helpful for the IPD diagnosis based on L‐Dopa challenge testing. Further controlled studies using standardized and transparent methodology for measuring acoustic parameters are necessary to confirm the place of each tool in both IPD diagnosis and treatment evaluation. This article is protected by copyright. Improving the efficacy of PET ‐CT imaging in head and neck cancer management and surveillance through the multidisciplinary team: a multi‐centre, retrospective cohort analysis of 51 patients
Abstract There has been a recent move towards image‐guided surveillance of N2/N3 disease in HNSCC and neck dissection only in selected cases PET‐CT demand is rising and alters management in a third of HNSCC patients PET‐CT is expensive and can lead to unnecessary and harmful investigations, delaying treatment The MDT is significantly less likely to request an inappropriate PET‐CT than the individual clinician Collaboration among specialists may minimise the ordering of inappropriate PET‐CTs, reducing costs and improving patient safety and management (Source: Clinical Otolaryngology)
