Bacterial isolates and drug susceptibility patterns of ear discharge from patients with ear infection at Gondar University Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia
Conclusion: The prevalence of ear infection was very high in the study area. Majority of the bacterial isolates were resistant to multiple antibiotics. Hence antibiotics susceptibility test is mandatory before prescribing any antibiotics. (Source: BMC Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders)

Childhood infections, but not early life growth, influence hearing in the Newcastle thousand families birth cohort at age 14 years
Conclusions: We found no associations between childhood hearing thresholds and early life growth and socio-economic status. Consistent with other studies, we found associations between childhood infections and hearing thresholds. Current public health strategies aimed at reducing childhood infections may also have a beneficial effect upon childhood hearing. (Source: BMC Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders)

Hearing screening for school children: utility of noise-cancelling headphones
Conclusions: NC headphones screening results differed from those obtained from TDH-39 earphones, with lower referral rates at 500 Hz, particularly at the 25 dB HL criterion level. Therefore, NC headphones may be able to operate at lower screening intensities and subsequently increase pure-tone screening test sensitivity, without compromising specificity. NC headphones show some promise as possible replacements for conventional earphones in school hearing screening programs. (Source: BMC Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders)
