Biliary stricture due to a migrated suture after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy
Abstract Benign biliary strictures have a broad spectrum of etiologies. There have been no reported cases, however, of a biliary stricture secondary to a migrated suture after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG). Here, we report one such case. The patient was a 60‐year‐old man who underwent LDG with Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction for early gastric cancer. Pathology revealed early cancer (T1N0M0) with a curative resection. Two years after LDG, the patient was found to have elevated hepatobiliary enzymes. After further workup, the new diagnosis was invasive cholangiocarcinoma (T2N0M0), and the patient underwent pancreati...

Laparoscopic surgery with urinary tract reconstruction and bowel endometriosis resection for deep infiltrating endometriosis
Abstract Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) is the most severe form of endometriosis. It causes chronic pelvic pain, severe dysmenorrhea, deep dyspareunia, dyschezia, and dysuria, markedly impairing the quality of life of women of reproductive age. A number of randomized controlled trials on surgical and medical treatments to reduce the pain associated with endometriosis have been reported, but few have focused on this in DIE. DIE causes not only pain but also functional invasion to the urinary organs and bowel, such as hydronephrosis and bowel stenosis. In addition to DIE resection, surgical treatment involves adhesion...

Prospective diagnostic study on the use of narrow ‐band imaging on suspicious lesions during colonoscopy examination
ConclusionThe NBI system in colonoscopy was capable of distinguishing neoplastic from non‐neoplastic colorectal lesions. It indicates an acceptable level of agreement with histopathology, the gold standard. However, the role of NBI in screening and surveillance in Malaysia still needs further evaluation and exploration. (Source: Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery)

Primary small intestinal volvulus after laparoscopic rectopexy for rectal prolapse
Abstract Primary small intestinal volvulus is defined as torsion in the absence of congenital malrotation, band, or postoperative adhesions. Its occurrence as an early postoperative complication is rare. A 40‐year‐old woman presented with rectal prolapse, and laparoscopic rectopexy was uneventfully performed. She could not have food on the day after surgery. She started oral intake on postoperative day 3 but developed abdominal pain after the meal. Contrast‐enhanced CT revealed torsion of the small intestinal mesentery. An emergent laparotomy showed small intestinal volvulus, without congenital malformation or intest...

Case of complete mesh migration into the stomach after mesh hiatoplasty for a hiatal hernia
Abstract Mesh migration is a rare complication of surgery for a hiatal hernia. Here, we present the case of a 72‐year‐old who complained of dysphasia and bodyweight loss. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed incarcerated mesh in the lumen of the esophagogastric junction. Surgery was performed under both endoscopy and laparoscopy, and the mesh was successfully removed via gastrostomy. To the best of our knowledge, our case is the first in which mesh that had migrated into the esophagogastric junction was removed by a combination of laparoscopic and endoscopic procedure, although the cases of 17 patients in which me...

Case of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer after aortic graft replacement and revascularization of the superior mesenteric artery
Abstract A 67‐year‐old man who presented with a bloody stool was diagnosed with ascending colon cancer. He had previously experienced thoracic and abdominal aortic dissections, which were treated with thoracic and abdominal aortic grafts and superior mesenteric artery revascularization. We performed a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with a D3 lymph node dissection. During the laparotomy, we identified the superior mesenteric artery and an enlarged anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery. Injury to the latter artery could lead to severe ischemia in multiple organs; therefore, it was crucial to identify the primary...
