Using Electronic Case Summaries to Elicit Multi-Disciplinary Expert Knowledge about Referrals to...
Conclusion: The method for eliciting expert knowledge enabled national dispersed expert clinicians to anonymously review case summaries and make decisions about post-acute care referrals. Having time and a comprehensive case summary may have assisted experts to identify more patients in need of post-acute care than the hospital clinicians. The methodology produced the data needed to develop an expert decision support system for discharge planning.... (Source: Applied Clinical Informatics)

From Information Management to Information Visualization
Conclusion: To develop a dashboard, management of information is essential. It is recommended that a quality map be designed for the MID. It can be used to specify the sequence of activities, their related indicators and required data for calculating these indicators. To achieve both an effective dashboard and a comprehensive view of operations, it is necessary to design a data warehouse for gathering data from a variety of systems. Utilizing interoperability standards for exchanging data among different systems can be also effective in this regard.... (Source: Applied Clinical Informatics)

Sinusitis Treatment Guideline Adherence in the e-visit Setting
Conclusion: The interventions resulted in a 3.3% improvement in adherence to the ABRS clinical guideline from 95.25% adherence pre-intervention to 98.4% post-intervention. These results demonstrated that the use of an educational intervention and clinical decision support resulted in improved adherence to the ABRS clinical guideline in the e-visit setting. The implications for practice could be significant in that these quality improvement interventions improve guideline adherence and reduce unnecessary prescribing of antibiotics.... Open Access: Integrating Heterogeneous Biomedical Data for Cancer Research: the CARPEM...
We describe the solution adopted by the CARPEM cancer research program to design and deploy a platform able to integrate retrospective, prospective, and day-to-day care data. We designed a three-layer architecture composed of a data collection layer, a data integration layer and a data access layer. We leverage a set of open-source resources including i2b2 and tranSMART. Primary Care Physician Designation and Response to Clinical Decision Support Reminders
Conclusions: A PCP relationship during a visit was associated with higher use of preventive care reminders and a lack of PCP was associated with lower use of CDS. Targeting reminders to the PCP may be desirable, but further studies are needed to determine which strategy achieves better patient care outcomes.... (Source: Applied Clinical Informatics)

Analysis of Nursing Clinical Decision Support Requests and Strategic Plan in a Large Academic Health...
Conclusion: Identifying and prioritizing paper-based tools that can be modified into electronic CDS is a challenge. CDS strategy is an evolving process that relies on close collaboration and engagement with clinical sites for short-term implementation and should be incorporated into a long-term strategic plan that can be optimized and achieved overtime. The Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom Conceptual Framework in conjunction with the High Priority Categories established may be a useful tool to guide a strategic approach for meeting short-term nursing CDS needs and aligning with the organizational strategic plan....
