Risky business—Or is it? Risk perception and integrative medicine
This article reviews some of the social science and psychology literature which has identified the key factors which attenuate or amplify risk perception. In particular, Ropeik's perception gap is discussed together with Slovic's work identifying factors which affect risk perception and heuristics. Several examples are given which are relevant to integrative medicine as it relates to safety. Drug–herb interactions and the perceived danger of herbal and nutritional medicines in surgery are key examples. The ‘risk as feelings’ hypothesis is also discussed as a means of better understanding barriers to the adoption of e...

Exploring the prospect of a complementary and integrative medicine database for use in the Australian primary care setting
Discussion A bottom-up approach that involves all stakeholders and builds on other national and international initiatives is recommended for developing a CIM-MDS. The final choice of data for a CIM-MDS will be informed by its intended uses. The lack of any standardised nomenclature for CIM coding is an important obstacle to building a robust dataset; however, in establishing a CIM-MDS there is the opportunity to collect data that could help inform a CIM coding system. The gastrointestinal microbiota and multi-strain probiotic therapy: In children and adolescent obesity
Publication date: January 2014 Source:Advances in Integrative Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 1 Author(s): Talia Palacios , Samantha Coulson , Henry Butt , Luis Vitetta Childhood obesity is a predisposing factor for chronic diseases both in the adolescent years and into adulthood.
