Marko and I have just got back from a week and a bit
overseas. We went to London for a conference (me) and a bit of shopping (Marko)
and then off to Holland to see Marko’s mom. We had a great time but it is very

It's like riding a bike

What do we owe our parents?
As my parents and their generation get older, I have been thinking a lot about what we owe our parents? Is it our responsibility to take care of them when they are old, as they did when we were young? Or was it their responsibility to plan for their old age? Is it our turn now to live our lives now, they had their turn? Do we not owe them a debt of gratitude for everything they did for us? For the many, many sacrifices they made when we were young? The ultimate sacrifice
I was brushing Kate's hair this morning (while she was playing on her iPad) when she said to me so sweetly, "Mom, I will die for you." I felt quite overcome with emotion and replied "Oh thank you Kate, I will die for you too". "No", she replies, "I meant I will die in this game for you so that I don't have to look down and you can brush my hair properly." (Source: So Close)

It was not the cat
Last night at about 2am I was startled awake by what sounded like someone strangling our cat. It was a half cry, half screech. It was particularly concerning as we do not in fact have a cat. Neither do any of our neighbours. (Source: So Close)
