Resources for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer affects 1 in every 8 women during their lives, and is the second most common kind of cancer in women. No one knows why some women get breast cancer, but there are many risk factors. Risks that you cannot change include: Age – the risk rises as you get older. Genes – two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, greatly increase the risk. Women who have family members with breast or ovarian cancer may wish to be tested for the genes. Personal factors – beginning periods before age 12 or going through menopause after age 55. Funding Available for ALA Midwinter
As part of a partnership with the All of Us Research Program, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region is pleased to offer up to 20 Professional Development Awards for library staff to attend ALA Midwinter. Awardees can apply for up to $2000 for registration and travel costs. Eligibility – Library staff in PA, NY, NJ and DE Awards will be made on a cost-reimbursement basis to the attendee’s library.
