Arrest Made in Shooting Death of AZ Medical Transport Driver
According to a report from KOLD, 18-year-old Kennon Grover was arrested by investigators for the deadly shooting of a Department of Veterans Affairs medical transport driver in April 2019.
The transport driver, 59-year-old Delfino Picazo, was picking up a patient when Grover approached his vehicle demanding money. Grover then shot Picazo in the head.
After the shooting, Grover fled to the Hopi Reservation until he thought it was safe to return to Phoenix. After the arrest was made, Grover told officers he felt bad about the shooting and that he had tossed the gun into a canal.

Expanded Vaccine Rollout in U.S. Spawns a New Set of Problems

The rapid expansion of COVID-19 vaccinations to senior citizens across the U.S. has led to bottlenecks, system crashes and hard feelings in many states because of overwhelming demand for the shots.
Mississippi’s Health Department stopped taking new appointments the same day it began accepting them because of a “monumental surge” in requests. People had to wait hours to book vaccinations through a state website or a toll-free number Tuesday and Wednesday, and many were booted off the site because of technical problems and had to start over.

Several Hurt as Bus Plunges Off Bridge in NY
NEW YORK (AP) — An articulated bus dramatically plunged off an overpass in New York City, leaving the front half hanging from the highway ramp it was navigating, its fall broken only by the road below.
The driver was seriously injured in the crash just after 11 p.m. Thursday at an interchange of the Cross Bronx and Major Deegan expressways, and seven passengers suffered minor injuries, fire officials said. They were taken to hospitals. No other vehicles were involved.

Feds Urge EMS to Prepare for Potential Unrest Ahead of Inauguration
EMS providers should be prepared for unrest ahead of the Inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden next week, according to memo from the federal government.

Las Vegas (NV) Ambulance Service Effectively Managing Latest COVID-19 Wave
According to a report from Las Vegas Sun, the Southern Nevada Health District’s (SNHD’s) ambulance service in Las Vegas has effectively managed the burden of the current COVID-19 crisis, a stark contrast to neighboring California.

NTSB Says Vehicle Battery Fires Pose Risks to 1st Responders

DETROIT (AP) — Electric vehicle fires pose safety risks to first responders and guidelines from manufacturers about how to deal with them have been inadequate, according to U.S. investigators.
There are also gaps in industry safety standards and research on high-voltage lithium-ion battery fires, especially in high-speed, severe crashes, the National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday.

U.S. Traffic Deaths Up Despite Virus Lockdowns
DETROIT (AP) — The number of people killed on the nation’s highways rose 4.6% in the first nine months of 2020 despite coronavirus lockdowns that curtailed driving early in the year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 28,190 people died in traffic crashes from January through September of last year, up from 26,941 in the same period of 2019. Final statistics for the full year won’t come out until fall.
