(AP) — A man whose truck was being impounded suddenly grabbed a rifle and opened fire, killing a California Highway Patrol officer and wounding two others before he was killed, authorities said. One Dead in Wisconsin House Explosion
MANAWA, Wis. (AP) — Authorities in Wisconsin say a man was likely asleep when his home exploded, killing him. Waupaca County Sheriff Tim Wilz tells news outlets that the home was "totally obliterated" by the Sunday morning explosion. The sheriff's office identifies the victim as 64-year-old Mark Steven Zielke. Manawa Rural Fire Chief Rob Rosenau says debris was "scattered all over the place." Boston MedFlight Pilot Investigated for Allegedly Falling Asleep at Controls
BOSTON (CBS) – A MedFlight helicopter pilot is under investigation for allegedly falling asleep during a flight with a patient on-board. The FAA is investigating whether the Boston MedFlight pilot “fell asleep at the controls of a helicopter while conducting a flight to a Boston hospital from Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts on June 24.” Boston MedFlight says it investigated the incident in which a pilot overflew the designated helipad and determined that fatigue was a factor. EMTs Killed in West Virginia Ambulance Crash
SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) — Two first responders have died in a crash involving their ambulance and a semi-truck in West Virginia. Jan-Care Ambulance spokesman Paul Seamann tells WVNS-TV that the early morning crash involving one of the company's ambulances happened Saturday, killing the two emergency medical technicians inside. Grand Junction, Colorado Tests Paramedic Vehicle Program
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) - The Grand Junction Fire Department says they are testing a new program with paramedics next month. The way it is now, paramedics are assigned to ambulances, and respond to calls whether they are needed or not. Kansas Paramedics Train to Work with SWAT Team
LENEXA, Kan. (KSHB, 41 Action News) From a barricade to a hostage situation, and from escorting a dignitary to making a high-risk arrest, the SWAT team responds to it all. And in Johnson County, when one of the six SWAT teams serving the county responds, a paramedic is on board. The role is called a tactical paramedic. Because the number of SWAT calls has increased in Johnson County over the past three years, Johnson County Med-Act is training three more paramedics to handle the SWAT responsibilities.
