Irrational Beliefs Among Competitive High School Student Athletes: Are they General or Context-Driven?
AbstractWhile student-athletes strive for high performance both athletically and academically, understanding the role of beliefs as it relates to objective measures of performance has not been readily studied (Turner and Barker in J Appl Sport Psychol 25:131 –147, 2013) and even less so among youth. This research examined if irrational beliefs that are context specific to performance settings (academic vs. athletic) are more predictive of academic and athletic performance than those more general irrational beliefs among 30 high-school student athlete basketball players. While both general and context-specific irrational ...

Comparing Presence and Absence of Initial In-Person Contact and Written Feedback in RE & amp;CBT E-Supervision
This study ’s primary statistical method for calculating and combining effect sizes was Tarlow Baseline Corrected Tau and Open Meta Analyst software. Both groups scored above average on the first two scales, but the disclosure scale had highly irregular and inconsistent patterns. The combined qualitative and quantitative results suggest that novice therapists generally prefer to have their entire sessions reviewed with written feedback and that a single in-person contact is unlikely to influence e-supervision satisfaction and working alliance. Given that there are no adequately validated e-supervision models, this pilot ...

The Science of REBT as it Relates to Performance: Are We in the Starting Blocks or Near the Finish Line?
AbstractRational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) has a long history of application and scholarly work in support of its efficacy. The logical extension of the scientific application of REBT to the area of performance is one that makes sense but has lagged relative to the science of clinical applications. While the majority of the research has been with more clinical treatment applications (e.g., depression) the science of REBT to improve performance has been increasing in frequency and demonstrating efficacy. Insights as to the current status and future directions of the science of REBT as it relates to performance setting...

An Internet Addiction Model Based on Cognitive-Behavioral Approach Among Adolescents: Maladaptive Cognitions, Psychopathology, and Situational Cues
This study examined the potential mediating role of maladaptive cognitions in the relationship between psychopathology, situational cues, and Internet addiction. The hypothesis for the study derives from Davis ’ cognitive-behavioral model of pathological Internet use. Participants were selected using a multi-stage sampling method and consist of 2197 high school students (1346 girls and 846 boys) from 34 high schools in the metropolitan area in Turkey. The research model was tested using structural equat ion modeling. The results indicated that the hypothesized model fit the data well and explained 74% of the variance of ...

The COVID-19 Pandemic —Related Irrational and Rational Beliefs Scale. An Investigation of the REBT Theoretical Model
AbstractThe present study proposes a contextual specific, short measure of irrational and rational beliefs in order to provide a methodologically rigorous investigation of the REBT theoretical model. The COVID-19 Pandemic- Related Irrational and Rational Beliefs Scale was developed according with the REBT theory including rationally and irrationally worded items for each of the four cognitive processes. The data were collected online via google forms between March and June 2020, the sample comprised 798 individuals. A series of confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to investigate the factor structure of the scale. A t...

The Irrational Food Beliefs Scale: Validation of the Italian Version in Patients with Obesity
This study aimed to propose the Italian version of the IFBS and examine its psychometric properties. The tool was translated into Italian and administered to 503 Italian-speaking patients with obesity and 45 healthy controls. The clinical group also completed the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) interview, and the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90). Principal factor analysis identified that 51.6% of the variance was accounted for by six factors, which we termed ‘self-deception on eating and weight control’, ‘beliefs about eating and emotion regulation’, ‘low tolerance for eating control’, ‘beliefs about eating an...

Is cognitive-behavioral coaching an empirically supported approach to coaching? a meta-analysis to investigate its outcomes and moderators
AbstractCognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is the best evidence-based form of psychotherapy for various types of psychopathology and life problems. In time, cognitive-behavioral theory has been adapted for other types of interventions, like counseling, mentoring, training, and lately coaching. Cognitive-behavioral coaching (CBC) is a specific approach to coaching, that makes use of both CBT conceptualization for problems and evidence-based tools and techniques. Since there are studies focused on the impact of CBC on different outcomes and there is no quantitative review to analyze them, the purpose of the study is to synth...

Quality of Work-Life and Stress Management in a Rural Sample of Primary School Teachers: An Intervention Study
AbstractWorkloads, roles, and demands in rural schools have been shown to be stressful and this appears to affect the quality of work-life of workers compared to urban locations. Consequently, employees in rural areas become vulnerable to mental health problems and psychological disturbances, psychologists are underrepresented. To date, there is little or no literature on the roles of rural community-based psychologists that may primarily engage in clinical and non-clinical services in Nigeria. With this in mind, we studied the effect of a rational emotive occupational health intervention on the quality of work-life and st...

The Effects of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) Group Counselling Program on Competitive Anxiety of Student-Athletes
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to develop a Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) based group counselling program for athletes, and then to experimentally test the effects of the program on the competitive anxiety and irrational beliefs of non-western student-athletes. The effects of the REBT based program was examined using a 2  × 2 controlled quasi-experimental group design. 22 student-athletes participated in the study (11 in the experimental group and 11 in the control group). The Sport Anxiety Scale-2 was used to assess athlete competitive anxiety. To test the effects of program, descriptive statistics...

Health-Related Cognitions and Metacognitions Indirectly Contribute to the Relationships Between Impulsivity, Fear of COVID-19, and Cyberchondria
AbstractThe aim of the study was to converge a structural equation model to unfold the compositive relationships between trait impulsivity, health cognitions, metacognitions about health, fear of COVID-19 and cyberchondria, after controlling for gender, age, marital status, having a chronic illness and chronic illness among first-degree relatives. Six hundred fifty-one participants (423 females, 65%; 228 males, 35%) participated in the study. The Short UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale (S-UPPS-P), Health Cognitions Questionnaire (HCQ), The Meta-Cognitions about Health Questionnaire (MCQ-HA), Cyberchondria Severity Scale –S...

Exploring Factor and Correlational Analysis of the Portuguese Version of the Unconditional Self-acceptance Questionnaire-Revised
This study describes a psychometric analysis of the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire-Revised (USAQ-R) in a Portuguese sample of university students. In a cross-sectional correlational design, 426 undergraduate students (M  = 20.6 years, SD = 5.07, Male = 63; Female = 363) were assessed using self-report questionnaires. Psychometric Properties were explored with an Exploratory Factor Analysis and Pearson correlations. A two-factor solution was extracted KMO = .825 and BS [x2 = 2134,883 (190),p <  .001]). Unconditional Acceptance, correlated negatively with symptomatology, while Con...

Assessing Metacognitions in Compulsive Exercising: The Construction and Evaluation of the Metacognitions About Exercise Questionnaire
AbstractThe metacognitive model of psychopathology has been applied to various psychological disorders, with a wide array of studies suggesting that metacognitions play an important role in addictive behaviors. Increasing scientific attention has been focused on a potential and relatively new form of behavioral addiction: compulsive exercising (i.e., when individuals gradually lose control over their exercise habits, act compulsively, and experience negative consequences). As no prior study has evaluated the role of metacognitions in compulsive exercising, the current study aimed to: (i) develop a self-report questionnaire...
