Adding positive airway pressure to mobilisation and respiratory techniques hastens pleural drainage: a randomised trial
ConclusionsIn patients with a fluid collection in the pleural space, the addition of positive pressure to mobilisation and respiratory techniques decreased the duration of thoracic drainage, length of hospital stay, pulmonary complications, antibiotic use and treatment costs.RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT02246946. Therapeutic alliance facilitates adherence to physiotherapy-led exercise and physical activity for older adults with knee pain: a longitudinal qualitative study
ConclusionDespite a focus on individualisation and exercise adherence, barriers remained in the longer term. Strong therapeutic alliance during treatment appeared to facilitate adherence to exercise and general physical activity. The findings highlight ongoing physiotherapy support and therapeutic alliance as targets for future adherence-enhancing interventions for exercise in older adults with knee pain. Motor imagery training improves balance and mobility outcomes in older adults: a systematic review
ConclusionMotor imagery training improves balance and mobility in older adults who do not have a neurological condition. These results suggest that motor imagery training could be an adjunct to standard physiotherapy care in older adults, although it is unclear whether or not the effects are clinically worthwhile.Trial registrationPROSPERO CRD42017069954. Short-term cryotherapy did not substantially reduce pain and had unclear effects on physical function and quality of life in people with knee osteoarthritis: a randomised trial
ConclusionShort-term cryotherapy was not superior to a sham intervention in terms of relieving pain or improving function and quality of life in people with knee OA. Although cryotherapy is considered to be a widely used resource in clinical practice, this study does not suggest that it has an important short-term effect, when compared with a sham control, as a non-pharmacological treatment for people with knee osteoarthritis.RegistrationNCT02725047.
