Incidental chest computed tomography findings in asymptomatic Covid-19 patients. A multicentre Indian perspective
Rochita V Ramanan, Anagha R Joshi, Akash Venkataramanan, Senthur P Nambi, Rashmi BadheIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2021 31(5):45-52 In December 2019, an unprecedented outbreak of pneumonia of unknown etiology emerged called COVID-19. A vast number of people affected by this disease are asymptomatic and yet contagious with up to 79% of COVID-19 infections reportedly caused by undocumented infections. Surprisingly, these asymptomatic subjects are also known to quietly harbor pneumonia changes on CT scans. RT-PCR, the definitive test for COVID-19, maybe false negative in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia...

Interventional radiology and COVID-19: How to face the challenge ?
Sreedhara B Chaluvashetty, Naveen Kalra, Harish Bhujade, Shyamkumar N Keshava, Chander MohanIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2021 31(5):38-44 With the sudden outbreak of Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) in China, and its rapid spread across the continents over a short period of time, healthcare workers are posed with the challenge of managing these patients as well protecting themselves from getting infected. Since interventional radiology deals with both elective and emergency services, wherein close patient contact is a norm, there is a substantial risk of acquiring and transmitting infection. Given the circumst...

Financial impact of COVID-19 on radiology practice in India
Gauri Ahuja, Mitusha Verma, Deepak PatkarIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2021 31(5):31-37 The COVID-19 pandemic will have serious financial effects on the healthcare sector business. There will be significant short-term and long-term effects of this on Radiology services throughout the country. Various social distancing measures undertaken by the government will bring larger economic hurdles with them. An attempt to achieve COVID-19 preparedness by hospitals has led to a significant decline in patient footfall and in turn imaging volumes. Despite relief measures provided by the government like providing a moratori...

Artificial intelligence and radiology: Combating the COVID-19 conundrum
Mayur PankhaniaIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2021 31(5):4-10 The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated rapid testing and diagnosis to manage its spread. While reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is being used as the gold standard method to diagnose COVID-19, many scientists and doctors have pointed out some challenges related to the variability, accuracy, and affordability of this technique. At the same time, radiological methods, which were being used to diagnose COVID-19 in the early phase of the pandemic in China, were sidelined by many primarily due to their low specificity and the difficul...

Where there is pancreatic juice, there is a way: Spontaneous fistulization of severe acute pancreatitis-associated collection into urinary bladder
We report a case of severe acute necrotizing pancreatitis in a 28-year-old male, chronic alcoholic, who on readmission developed features of cystitis. The urine was turbid but did not show significant bacteriuria. Close location of the PFC near the urinary bladder (UB) prompted evaluation of urinary lipase and amylase. Elevated urinary enzyme levels suggested a Pancreatico-vesical fistula, conclusive demonstration of which was established by CT cystography. Percutaneous drainage of the necrosum and stenting of pancreatic duct led to spontaneous healing of the pancreatico-vesical fistula. Our case reiterates the remarkable ...

Parathyroid cyst eclipsed by parathyroid adenoma: Value of adjunct imaging
Khyati Bhatia, Deepak Sarin, Gopal Kumar Singh, Alka Ashmita SinghalIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2020 30(4):524-528 Parathyroid cyst is a rare clinical entity and often presents as a diagnostic challenge, especially when presents in conjunction with a coexistent parathyroid adenoma. Patient with primary hyperparathyroidism had presented with a localised left inferior parathyroid adenoma with a coexistent right inferior parathyroid cyst which was initially missed on routine ultrasound and sestamibi scan. Suspicion of right inferior thyroid cyst was raised on ultrasound done by a dedicated parathyroid ultrasonolo...

Remote cerebellar haemorrhage: A case report
Sachin Kumar, Hrishikesh A KaleIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2020 30(4):521-523 Intracranial haemorrhage after supra-tentorial craniotomies can occur in a typical pattern and location which may suggest the diagnosis of remote cerebellar haemorrhage (RCH) which is quite a rare occurrence. The 'Zebra Sign’ refers to a pattern of hyperdensity indicative of blood and hypodensity indicative of normal cerebellar parenchyma in a curvilinear, stripe-like fashion along the cerebellar folia and is a characteristic imaging finding in RCH. RCH in general doesn't require surgical treatment,...
