Case report: Concurrent low-volume subdural hematoma and ipsilateral ischemic stroke presenting as capsular warning syndrome: a complex case with anticoagulation dilemma and dual pathology
ConclusionThe presence of both a small subdural hematoma and an ipsilateral ischemic stroke presenting as capsular warning syndrome in an anticoagulated patient highlights the intricacy of their care. This case calls for a comprehensive and collaborative strategy to address complicated clinical scenarios. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Improved prediction of sepsis-associated encephalopathy in intensive care unit sepsis patients with an innovative nomogram tool
ConclusionThis study successfully identified autonomous risk factors associated with the emergence of SAE in sepsis patients and utilized them to formulate a predictive model. The outcomes of this investigation have the potential to serve as a valuable clinical resource for the timely detection of SAE in patients. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Harmonizing multisite data with the ComBat method for enhanced Parkinson ’s disease diagnosis via DAT-SPECT
ConclusionAlthough we confirmed that SBRs fairly discriminated PD from healthy older adults without any correction, the correction methods improved their discrimination performance in a multisite setting. Our results support the utility of harmonization methods with ComBat for consolidating SBR-based diagnosis or stratification of PD in multisite studies. Nonetheless, given the substantial changes in the mean values of ComBat-corrected SBRs, caution is advised when interpreting them. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Acupuncture for insomnia symptoms in hypertensive patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
This study is registered with PROSPERO under number CRD42023461760.ResultsOur analysis included 16 RCTs, comprising 1,309 patients. The findings revealed that acupuncture was significantly more effective than the control group in reducing insomnia symptoms, as indicated by a greater decrease in the PSQI score (MD = −3.1, 95% CI [−3.77 to −2.62], p < 0.00001). Additionally, improvements in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were more pronounced in the acupuncture group compared to the control group (SBP: MD = −10.31, 95% CI [−16.98 to −3.64], p = 0.002; DBP: MD = −5.71, 95% CI [...

Efficacy and safety of Argatroban in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionArgatroban can improve neurological deterioration, with a low incidence of adverse events such as bleeding and death, and general analysis showed no improvement in mRS. However, subgroup analysis suggests that compared to mono-antiplatelet therapy, combination therapy of Argatroban combined with antiplatelet therapy significantly reduced the incidence of END and improved mRS scores. After using Argatroban, there was no increase in the risk and mortality of intracranial hemorrhage and other bleeding sites. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Video-electroencephalographic findings and clinical characteristics of bathing seizures in children
ConclusionA majority of children with bathing epilepsy in our study showed focal autonomic seizures accompanied by impaired consciousness. Stopping bathing could control the seizures and showed a good prognosis. A few infants manifested a poor prognosis, and we posit that bathing seizure rarely constitute the early manifestations of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. VEEG findings and clinical features can also indicate the prognosis. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

PFO-spectrum disorder: two different cerebrovascular diseases in patients with PFO as detected by AI brain imaging software
DiscussionWe suggest that PFO may be associated with the development of two distinct cerebrovascular conditions (stroke and “silent” WM lesions), each characterized by unique imaging patterns. Further studies are needed to identify better the “at-risk” PFOs and gain deeper insights into their clinical implications. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Classification and hemodynamic characteristics of delayed intracerebral hemorrhage following stent-assisted coil embolism in unruptured intracranial aneurysms
ConclusionDICH in SAC-treated UIAs can manifest as either a lower (type 1) or higher (type 2) in the rate of velocity in DICH-related arteries. An imbalance in distal arterial blood flow distribution appears to be a significant factor in DICH development. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

A nomogram for predicting the risk of cerebral vasospasm after neurosurgical clipping in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
ConclusionCVS was a prevalent complication following neurosurgical clipping in patients with aSAH, with a highly intricate pathogenesis and pathophysiological course. Early prediction of CVS represented a significant challenge in clinical practice. In this study, age, Hcy, WBC, glucose/potassium ratio, aneurysm location, and modified Fisher grade emerged as independent risk factors for CVS. The resulting nomogram demonstrated substantial predictive value. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Test-retest, intra- and inter-rater reliability of the reactive balance test in patients with chronic ankle instability
ConclusionTest-retest reliability was moderate, intra-rater reliability was good, and inter-rater reliability showed moderate reliability for accuracy and good reliability for VMRT. Additionally, the RBT shows robust SEM and mean difference measures. The score sheet method also demonstrated moderate test-retest reliability, while inter-rater reliability was good to excellent. This suggests that the RBT can be a valuable tool in assessing and monitoring balance in patients with CAI. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Case report: Susac syndrome —two ends of the spectrum, single center case reports and review of the literature
Susac syndrome is a rare and enigmatic complex neurological disorder primarily affecting small blood vessels in the brain, retina, and inner ear. Diagnosing Susac syndrome may be extremely challenging not only due to its rarity, but also due to the variability of its clinical presentation. This paper describes two vastly different cases—one with mild symptoms and good response to therapy, the other with severe, complicated course, relapses and long-term sequelae despite multiple therapeutic interventions. Building upon the available guidelines, we highlight the utility of black blood MRI in this disease and provide a com...

Epidemiology of myasthenia gravis in the United States
We report crude incidence and prevalence and calculated age-and sex-standardized estimates for the USA based on the 2017 American Community Survey. We estimated the number of adult cases during 2021 by extrapolating from the stratified estimates to the population size from the 2021 American Community Survey.ResultsFrom the US commercially/Medicare-insured cohort, we calculated an age-and sex-standardized incidence of 68.5 new cases per million person-years with an adjusted prevalence of 316.4 per million. Within the Medicaid-insured population, similar yet slightly lower numbers emerged: the adjusted incidence was 49.7 new...
