Spontaneous coronary artery dissection after COVID-19 infection presenting with ST segment elevation
A 45-year-old woman presented with chest pain and ECG showed ST-elevation in antero-lateral leads. She did not have connective tissue disease, risk factors for coronary artery disease and was not pregnant. She experienced classical symptoms of COVID-19 eight weeks previously including anosmia, hypogeusia, and an influenza-like illness but was not tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) as, at the time, testing was not routinely available in the community in the U.K. Coronary angiography showed an extensive type 2 spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) involving the entire left anterio...

High-sugar feeding and increasing cholesterol levels in infants
AbstractHypercholesterolaemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Both total and LDL cholesterol levels are three-fold higher at the end of the first year of life and about four-fold higher in adulthood compared with the neonatal period. In the USA, only 25% of infants are exclusively breastfed and simple carbohydrate-rich formulas are preferentially consumed. Spikes in fasting glucose and insulin have been reported in formula-fed infants and are associated with higher levels of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9, suggesting a potential link between high simple sugar intake and consequent inc...

Progression of artery aneurysm after transcatheter closure of coronary artery fistula
A 33-year-old man was admitted with exertional dyspnoea, and a systolic heart murmur was detected at the cardiac apex. Transthoracic echocardiography showed the right coronary artery fistula draining into the left ventricle (CAF-LV) with a giant aneurysm (66  mm × 82 mm). The distal diameter of the fistula was 4 mm arteriographically, and transcatheter closure was performed successfully with a 6-6 mm Amplatzer duct occluder II (AGA Medical, Golden Valley, MN, USA) (Panels A –D). After the procedure, dual-antiplatelet therapy was administrated. During the follow-up of 2 years, the size of the artery aneurysm enla...

Ventricular arrhythmia burden during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic
ConclusionsDuring COVID-19, there was a 32% reduction in ventricular arrhythmias needing device therapies, coinciding with measures of social isolation. There was a 39% reduction in the proportion of patients with ventricular arrhythmias in states with higher COVID-19 incidence. These findings highlight the potential role of real-life stressors in ventricular arrhythmia burden in individuals with ICDs.Trial registrationAustralian New Zealand Clinical Trial Registry; URL:https://www.anzctr.org.au/; Unique Identifier: ACTRN12620000641998 (Source: European Heart Journal)

Percutaneous transmyocardial ablation of a metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma invading the interventricular septum
A 52-year-old woman presented with exertional chest tightness for 3  months. She had undergone resection of left adrenocortical adenoma 9 years ago. A 5.5 cm × 4.1 cm mass was found on echocardiography in the interventricular septum (IVS) (Panel A, Supplementary material online, Video S1Supplementary material online,Video S1) that obstructed the right ventricular outflow tract (Panels B andC, Supplementary material online, Videos S2 and S3Supplementary material online,Videos S2 andS3). The mass was non-homogenously enhanced on contrast echocardiography (Panel D, Supplementary material online, Video S4Supplementary m...

Cardiac angiosarcoma detected using 68Ga-fibroblast activation protein inhibitor positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance
A 31-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of chest pain and dyspnoea. Chest computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography showed massive pericardial effusion. Pericardiocentesis drained the bloody pericardial effusion. A malignant disease was suggested. (Source: European Heart Journal)

Vegetarians, fish, poultry, and meat-eaters: who has higher risk of cardiovascular disease incidence and mortality? A prospective study from UK Biobank
Conclusion  Eating fish rather than meat or poultry was associated with a lower risk of a range of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Vegetarianism was only associated with a lower risk of CVD incidence. (Source: European Heart Journal)
