Diabetes management, dietary supplements use and the effect of coronavirus pandemic on diabetes patients in Serbia: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Special caution is needed regarding the potential interactions of DS with chronic therapy. To enhance diabetes care, Serbia needs more accessible mental health support, improved diabetes education, expanded CGM availability, and carefully planned emergency healthcare measures for chronic patients.PMID:38112408 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2296963 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

The impact of psychedelics on patients with alcohol use disorder: a systematic review with meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The use of psychedelics to treat alcohol use disorder is promising, but the weaknesses in the literature base preclude making definitive statements about its value. Future trials with greater methodological rigor are needed.PMID:38111216 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2296968 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Associations of serum uric acid levels and anthropometric parameters with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in healthy individuals: innovative insights from a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest a significant relationship between serum uric acid levels and NAFLD in healthy individuals. Elevated uric acid levels, in conjunction with other anthropometric parameters, may serve as potential predictive markers for NAFLD.PMID:38111962 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2296967 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Kalium phosphoricum comp. in patients with neurasthenia: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Trial treatment was well tolerated with only a few and minor AEs reported, confirming the markedly good safety of KPC. A significant improvement of neurasthenia was seen for the total study population at the end of the treatment period. Superiority of KPC vs. placebo could not be demonstrated with the pre-specified analysis with regards to a sum score of 12 typical symptoms, perceived stress, or general health status. However, the explorative post-hoc analysis revealed that KPC is superior to placebo in the characteristic symptoms irritability and nervousness. KPC could therefore be a beneficial treatment opti...

The use of large language models in medicine: proceeding with caution
Curr Med Res Opin. 2023 Dec 13:1-9. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2023.2295411. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLarge language models, like ChatGPT and Bard, have potential clinical applications due to their ability to generate conversational responses and encode medical knowledge. However, their clinical adoption faces challenges including hallucinations, lack of transparency, and lack of consistency. Ethicolegal concerns surrounding patient consent, legal liability, and data privacy further complicate matters. Despite their promise, an optimistic but cautious approach is essential for the safe integration of large language models ...

The relationship between polypharmacy and physical performance in patients with early-stage Alzheimer's disease
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated the association of polypharmacy with poor physical performance in patients with early stage Alzheimer's disease. Prospective long-term studies investigating the relationship of polypharmacy and drug subgroups with physical performance in elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease would be appropriate.PMID:38073464 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2293109 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)
