Preferences for different treatment options among people living with acromegaly in the US
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that new treatment options administered as subcutaneous injections right under the skin once every fourth week at home have the potential to lower the treatment burden among people with acromegaly, emphasizing the importance of taking each person's preference into consideration when choosing treatment.PMID:38317571 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2314244 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Audit of adherence to international guidelines (IDSA) in the treatment of infectious meningitis in pediatric patients in Jordan
CONCLUSION: This study revealed a low overall adherence in the management of pediatric patients with meningitis in Jordan. Establishing an antimicrobial stewardship program may improve the outcomes of meningitis infections found in Jordan, and prevent dangerous adverse effects and bacterial resistance.PMID:38308446 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2314738 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Successful treatment of severe alcohol withdrawal delirium with very high-dose diazepam (260-480  mg) administration
CONCLUSION: Severe AWS can potentially result in death otherwise managed quickly and adequately. Diazepam is a suitable agent for severe AWS or DT treatment. Clinicians should keep in mind that high-dose diazepam treatment may be required in the treatment of DT that develops after a long-term and high amount of alcohol consumption. Publications reporting the need for very high doses of diazepam in DT are limited and usually published long ago; in this context, our findings are significant. The evidence is often based on case reports and uncontrolled studies, so controlled trials are needed to determine optimal treatment do...

Factors and economic burden of non-severe hypoglycemia among insulin-treated type 2 diabetes patients: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: These findings help to individuate those patients who are at higher risk of non-severe hypoglycemia in insulin-treated T2D patients. Compared to the non-hypoglycemia group, patients with hypoglycemia were younger, had longer diabetes duration, lower BMI, received thiazolidinedione and insulin regimens such as premix, basal plus, or basal bolus insulins, and more productivity loss.PMID:38293765 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2312160 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Goal setting and goal attainment in patients with major depressive disorder: a narrative review on shared decision making in clinical practice
CONCLUSIONS: Goal setting is a pragmatic approach to turning the principles of SDM into realities of clinical practice and aligns with the principles of recovery that encompasses the notions of self-determination, self-management, personal growth, empowerment, and choice. Accumulating evidence supports the use of goal attainment scaling as an appropriate personalised outcome measure for use in clinical trials.PMID:38294154 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2313108 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Between human and AI: assessing the reliability of AI text detection tools
CONCLUSION: The study demonstrates that while automatic detection tools may discern texts generated by ChatGPT-4 significant variability exists in their accuracy. Undoubtedly, there is an urgent need for advanced detection tools to ensure the authenticity and integrity of content, especially in scientific and academic research. However, our findings underscore an urgent need for more refined detection methodologies to prevent the misdetection of human-written content as AI-generated and vice versa.PMID:38265047 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2310086 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

A machine learning-based algorithm to identify U-500R insulin candidates among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in US retrospective databases
CONCLUSION: This study successfully developed and validated a machine learning-based algorithm to identify U-500R candidates among patients with T2DM. This may help health care providers and decision-makers to understand important characteristics of patients who could use U-500R therapies which in turn could support policies and guidelines for optimal patient management.PMID:38259227 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2293116 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Biofilm-producing antibiotic-resistant bacteria in Indian patients: a comprehensive review
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024 Jan 12:1-20. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2305241. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFor the past few years, microbial biofilms have been emerging as a significant threat to the modern healthcare system, and their prevalence and antibiotic resistance threat gradually increase daily among the human population. The biofilm has a remarkable impact in the field of infectious diseases, in particular healthcare-associated infections related to indwelling devices such as catheters, implants, artificial heart valves, and prosthetic joints. Bacterial biofilm potentially adheres to any biotic or abiotic surfaces th...

Is nociplastic pain, a new pain category, associated with biochemical, hematological, and inflammatory parameters?
CONCLUSION: In our study, it was observed that levels of vitamin D in individuals with nociplastic pain were low, while erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, and Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratio were high, and hemoglobin and ferritin levels were elevated. Furthermore, these findings were found to be associated with both the presence of pain and the severity of pain assessed using the visual analog scale.PMID:38204412 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2304106 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Co-crystal of tramadol-celecoxib (CTC) for acute moderate-to-severe pain
CONCLUSIONS: Results from phase 3 trials suggest that the modified physicochemical properties of tramadol and celecoxib in CTC translate into an improved clinical benefit-risk profile, including fewer opioid-related adverse effects due to lower overall opioid dosing.PMID:38205948 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2023.2276118 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Colorectal cancer screening uptake and adherence by modality at a large tertiary care center in the United States: a retrospective analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In an opportunistic CRC screening program, adherence increased but remained below the national 80% goal. While colonoscopy remained the most utilized modality, new colonoscopy uptake declined, compared with rising mt-sDNA and FIT utilization. Among minority populations, new uptake increased most with mt-sDNA and FIT.PMID:38197407 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2303090 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

The two different profiles in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and type 2 diabetes mellitus: ischemic and diabetic
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with T2DM and HFpEF, who had the poorest prognosis, were of two different profiles: either ischemic or DMC etiology. The first had a higher burden of cardiovascular disease and inflammation whereas the second had a higher prevalence of obesity and AF. The first had a slightly poorer prognosis than the second, though this finding was not significant.PMID:38193461 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2303089 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Sociodemographic disparities in GLP-1RA and SGLT2i use among US adults with type 2 diabetes: NHANES 2005-March 2020
CONCLUSIONS: The use of GLP-1RA/SGLT2i drugs increased over time but remained low in March 2020. Higher education and income, but not race/ethnicity, were associated with GLP-1RA/SGLT2i use.PMID:38193509 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2303413 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)
