The use of essential oils in atopic dermatitis: a review
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024 Apr 16:1-32. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2340734. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtopic dermatitis (AD) has become a common childhood disease that affects a large number of children worldwide and has become a chronic skin disease that cause a huge economical and psychological damage to the whole family. Despite the use of steroids, immunosuppressants and various topical preparation, the prognosis is still poor. Hence, this review aimed to explore the potential of using essential oils (EO) as an active ingredient in managing AD. The review was completed by using Pubmed, Scopus and Medline to search for...

Diagnosis of bone marrow involvement in angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma should be based on both [ < sup > 18 < /sup > F]FDG-PET/CT and bone marrow biopsy findings
CONCLUSION: In AITL patients, PET/BM-positive results may obviate the necessity for repeat BMB to ascertain confirm BM involvement. PET/BM-negative results do not definitively exclude BM involvement. The combined use of [18F]FDG-PET/CT and BMB can increase the diagnostic accuracy of BM involvement for AITL patients.PMID:38626218 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2337670 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Lipid clinic experience with bempedoic acid in 3 UK centres
Conclusion: This audit suggests that bempedoic acid therapy is effective but that adverse effects and discontinuation are common. This suggests nocebo effects might be generalisable to all lipid-lowering drug therapies in susceptible individuals.PMID:38616695 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2341870 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Iraqi experts consensus on the management of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis in adults
This study aimed to develop consensus recommendations regarding the diagnosis and management of MS in Iraq, specifically focusing on treatment-naïve patients, suboptimal responders, and women of childbearing age during preconception, pregnancy planning, and lactation. A survey was conducted to collect feedback from a panel of ten key opinion leaders (KOLs), who evaluated and discussed the statements to determine agreement levels. The mini-Delphi method was employed to establish a consensus on the management recommendations, and a meeting was held to analyze the responses and ensure that the recommendations were based on c...

Development and validation of a score assessing the risk of severe asthma in primary care
CONCLUSION: The AS-HScore emerges an accurate tool predicting severe asthma risk in the Italian primary care. It therefore shows promising application to enhance asthma care by early identification of severe cases. Implementing a score-based CDSS for Italian GPs holds potential for significantly improving asthma management and patients' outcomes.PMID:38602488 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2341869 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Safety and tolerability of β-blockers: importance of cardioselectivity
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024;40(sup1):55-62. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2317433. Epub 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTCardioselective β-blockade is generally well tolerated in practice and contraindications to this therapy are uncommon. β-blockers are a diverse therapeutic class, and their individual tolerability profiles are influenced strongly by their pharmacodynamic effects across different adrenergic receptors. Bisoprolol, probably the β-blocker with the highest selectivity for blockade of β1- vs. β2-adrenoceptors, does not block β2-adrenoceptors to an appreciable extent at doses in therapeutic use. Side-effects often attributed...

The clinical value of β-blockers in patients with stable angina
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024;40(sup1):33-41. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2317443. Epub 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTStable angina, one manifestation of chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), is characterised by intermittent episodes of insufficient blood supply to the myocardium, provoking symptoms of myocardial ischaemia, particularly chest pain. These attacks usually occur during exercise or stress. Anti-ischaemic drugs are the mainstay of pharmacologic management of CCS with symptoms of angina. β-blockers reduce heart rate and myocardial contractility, thus reducing myocardial oxygen consumption. These drugs have been shown to ameliorate t...

β-blockers are not all the same: pharmacologic similarities and differences, potential combinations and clinical implications
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024;40(sup1):15-23. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2318058. Epub 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTβ-blockers are a heterogeneous class, with individual agents distinguished by selectivity for β1- vs. β2- and α-adrenoceptors, presence or absence of partial agonist activity at one of more β-receptor subtype, presence or absence of additional vasodilatory properties, and lipophilicity, which determines the ease of entry the drug into the central nervous system. Cardioselectivity (β1-adrenoceptor selectivity) helps to reduce the potential for adverse effects mediated by blockade of β2-adrenoceptors outside the myocar...
