Big Time!
Co-blogger Pat Paule and Friend of InsureBlog (FoIB) Bob Graboyes have just been published at Real Clear Markets. It's a great explanation of how the Actuarial Value calculation promises to become a major stumbling block for ACA-compliant plans:"Think of Pat's client as the student with the highest GPA in the class. Typically, this student would be valedictorian. At the ACA School, however, the art teacher/principal says sternly, "I'm deeply disappointed in your performance. Unless you want an F this semester, you had better answer more questions incorrectly and miss some deadlines. Consider this a warning."Read the whole ...

Obamacare Waste, Fraud and Abuse
In her testimony before Congress today, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius provided an updated dollar amount for the cost of HealthCare.gov: $677 million. In addition to the $677 million spent on the federal Obamacare website, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has shoveled $4.5 billion of taxpayer money to promote Obamacare on the state level.Americans for Tax ReformFor the math challenged, that's about $5.2 billion in taxpayer dollars. But only half of us actually PAY income taxes, so the rest of you can ignore the rest of this post.HHS also released updated “enro...

Riddle me this...
So over 25% of the folks who do manage to successfully create an account at 404care.gov see their application garbled by the time it hits the carrier's site. Most people, of course, can't get through at all, and Ms Shecantbeserious has been urging these folks to go the paper route.Okey dokey.Just one leeetle problem with this:"Now the link to the downloadable paper application at Healthcare.gov has been removed altogether"One wonders what Plan C will look like....Original content copyright © InsureBlog (Source: InsureBlog)

If You Like Your Obamacare Plan Don’t Count on Keeping It
[Welcome Power Line Blog readers!] Much has been made about the promise of "if you like your current plan you can keep it." But what if I like my Obamacare plan that I get in 2014? Will I be able to keep that? The simple answer is – No.The reason is that the new figures set forth in 2015 increase the maximum deductible from $2000 to $2150 and the out of pocket limit from $6350 to $6850. More on this in a minute.Due to the strict metal tiers imposed under the law, several of the plans that have been approved in 2014 will not meet the criteria in 2015. It boils down to changes in benefit requirements coupled with a co...

Connecting the dots
Three seemingly unrelated items, but the careful reader will detect a common thread:■ Are the Republicans actively and purposefully going about sabotaging the ObamaTax using phony websites?Puh-lease! As if The Stupid Party was that competent.■ The GOP doesn't have to engage in destructive behavior vis the ObamaTax - those in charge of its implementation are doing a bang-up job themselves:"California's health exchange has provided insurance agents with names and contact information for tens of thousands of people who went online to check out coverage but didn't ask to be contacted"Actually, many of them specifically opt...
