Response to the paper on DMSO cryopreserved platelets published in Transfusion Medicine Reviews Volume 28(4)

We were interested in Slichter et al.'s “Review of in vivo studies of dimethyl sulfoxide cryopreserved platelets” (1) and would like to draw attention to our work in this field which is described in the monograph “Non-surgical bleeding diathesis in anemic thrombocytopenic patients: role of temperature, RBC, platelets, and plasma clotting proteins” (2). This monograph reports the role of red blood cell function to exert a hemostatic effect together with the platelet hemostatic function of fresh, liquid preserved, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) cryopreserved platelets to reduce the bleeding time and nonsurgical blood loss in normal volunteers, patients and baboons.
