Neurosurgical Management of Brain Metastases

Management of brain metastases continues to evolve. Neurosurgical considerations when evaluating patients with brain metastases include the size, location, and number of lesions as well as the primary cancer type, systemic disease burden, and preoperative functional state. Oncologic treatment advances continue to lengthen the overall survival of these patients thereby increasing the incidence of patients ultimately requiring intervention for their intracranial disease. We review current evidence and emerging surgical technologies that are changing the decision making landscape for neuro-oncologists.
