We thank Dr Wauters and colleagues for their interest in our work. Complying with the journal word count, some details published elsewhere were not included in this paper. Every patient in our cohort had dyspepsia. Seven of 8 patients who did not satisfy Rome III criteria and 39 of 40 patients had moderately severe (or worse) symptoms on at least 1 subscale of the 2-week PAGI-SYM daily symptom diary, which provides a more refined characterization of symptoms than a single questionnaire.1 Similar to this study, many patients with dyspepsia in clinical practice do not satisfy the Rome criteria.
