Could diabetes mellitus affect female sexual function: a comparative study

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the sexual functions among married female diabetic patients using a modified Arabic translated version of the female sexual function index (FSFI). Patients and methods: A total of 247 diabetic patients (the diabetic group) were compared with 100 nondiabetic women with respect to their sexual function. The FSFI questionnaire was administered on both groups. Blood glucose testing (fasting, 2-h postprandial, and glycosylated hemoglobin) was carried out for the diabetic patients. Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in the desire and excitement domains in diabetic patients compared with controls.
