We thank Liu and Li for their interest in our study, “Risk for post-colonoscopy irritable bowel syndrome in patients with and without antibiotic exposure.”1,2 In their letter, they suggest 2 considerations about the study design and describe their potential implications for the main study conclusion that antibiotic use around the time of colonosco py is not associated with subsequent diagnoses of irritable bowel syndrome.
