The Role of Race in Predicting Mastectomy Outcomes: Evaluation Against a Standardized Reimbursement Tool

All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRGs) group similar patients for quality improvement, public reporting, and hospital reimbursement. APR-DRGs assign patients severity of illness (SOI) and risk of mortality (ROM) scores based on a series of patient variables. Our aim is to identify the efficacy of APR-DRGs in predicting surgical patient outcomes both independently and in the context of race, a currently excluded variable.
