Transduodenal Ampullectomy for Ampullary Lesions: Experience and Follow-Up

Tumors arising from the ampulla of Vater are entities with a low prevalence and high mortality. Management is surgical and approaches range from open to endoscopic surgery. Due to their risk of mortality and recurrence, radical surgical interventions are preferred, but it has been documented that in selected cases transduodenal ampullectomy is a safe approach for certain ampullary pathologies. Transduodenal ampullectomy is a local excision method that can be performed in patients with ampullary tumors, who are unable to undergo the endoscopic ampullectomy or pancreaticoduodenectomy for various reasons.
