Use of Risk-Adjusted Prophylaxis in Elective General Surgery Cases Significantly Reduces Venous Thromboembolic Complications

Risk-adjusted venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis reduces VTE risk. However, adherence to recommended VTE prophylaxis guidelines is variable, and often suboptimal. Strategies to reduce VTE and improve adherence to prophylaxis guidelines are needed. VTE events were contrasted to implemented and recommended prophylaxis, stratified by Caprini score.
