Enhancing Global Surgery Research: Toward an Understanding of Involvement and Challenges in Africa

As academic global surgery develops, there is increased interest in building research capacity in low- and middle-income countries. Best methods remain a source of debate and challenges are rarely described. A regional training organization has 16 surgical residency programs in 8 countries within Africa. We hypothesized that surgeons at these programs offer valuable, yet unreported, insights into effective research conduct, beneficial experiences, and contextual challenges.
