Using Predictive Bed Planning to Reduce Case Cancellations and Create Growth Opportunities in High Occupancy Academic Health Systems

Elective surgical patients comprise a large proportion of academic medical center (AMC) inpatient census. With many AMCs frequently operating at high-occupancy, uncontrolled variation in census can lead to capacity challenges. Our objective was to develop and implement a Surgical Smart Scheduling Tool (SSST) in three AMC hospitals.
