Minimizing Complications with Minimally Invasive Distal Pancreatectomy for Pancreatic Malignancy

The advent of minimally invasive surgery has led to a paradigm shift in the approach to the treatment of malignancies in the body and tail of the pancreas. Minimally invasive distal pancreatectomies (MIDP) have increased compared to the traditional open distal pancreatectomy (ODP). While a growing number of MIDP are performed, there are limited studies comparing the perioperative outcomes and readmission data between ODP and MIDP on a national level.
