Preoperative Management of Patients Undergoing Pancreatoduodenectomy for Malignant Neoplasms: To Drain or Not to Drain?

The benefit of preoperative biliary drainage (PBD), either by endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD), in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy for malignant neoplasms is still under debate. We aimed to assess the impact of PBD in the postoperative outcomes of patients that underwent pancreatoduodenectomy without a preoperative diagnosis of cholangitis.
