Structural analysis reveals a conformational difference between the related Human Growth arrest specific-1 (GAS1) and the glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor receptor alphas (GFRalphas), potentially explaining why GAS1 can bind to the tyrosine kinase Ret in a ligand-independent manner.
