Pediatric Neurology in the Emergency Department

In 2008, in the preface in the last issue of Clinical Pediatric Emergency Medicine (CPEM) that focused on neurologic conditions in the emergency department (ED), the guest editor wrote that a history and detailed neurologic evaluation are the most useful aspects of the evaluation. The ability to localize a neurologic deficit along the neuroaxis and to formulate a differential diagnosis based on the associated history and time course of the deficits are the cornerstones for the selection of diagnostic studies and therapeutic intervention in the ED.
