Publication date: Available online 19 February 2015 Source:The Internet and Higher Education Author(s): Rosa M. Mayordomo , Javier Onrubia The purpose of the study was to explore possible relationships between work organisation and collaborative knowledge construction in a small group collaborative virtual task with written products. Four small groups (two groups with high marks at the end of the task and two groups with low marks at the end of the task) in an “Instructional Psychology” course participated in the study. The task lasted for five weeks. All the contributions and attached documents (a total of 583 contributions and 159 attached documents) of the four groups were gathered and analysed. Results show clear differences between groups with high and low marks both in the observed types of work organisation and in the attained phases of collaborative knowledge construction. Results also suggest a connection between the observed types of coordination and the attained phases of collaborative knowledge construction in the distinct groups.
