68Ga DOTATATE PET/CT imaging of Currarino syndrome with neuroendocrine tumor
A 78-year-old woman, undergoing imaging monitoring for a low-grade breast cancer, was found with multiple liver nodules and a presacral mass. Biopsy of one of the hepatic metastases showed a grade 2 neuroendocrine tumor. Subsequent68Ga DOTATATE PET/CT showed a presacral mass exhibiting an eccentrically hypermetabolic lesion with additional uptake foci of the liver, retroperitoneal and pelvic nodes, lumbar spine and pelvic bones (Fig. 1). The findings are suggestive of a primary neuroendocrine tumor arising from the presacral mass with widespread hepatic, nodal and osseous metastases. A sacrococcygeal defect was also present on PET/CT and contemporary cross-sectional imaging (Fig. 2). The patient underwent177Lu DOTATATE treatment with positive response on the most recent imaging monitoring 9 months after the start of the therapy.
