Microscopic endo-nasal access in pituitary surgery for tumour removal: 8 year review of nasal complications.
Conclusion
Nasal complication rates from this method are low. The microscope can be successfully used in an endo-nasal approach to the sella on its own. It can also be a useful adjunct to the endoscope and this skill should not be forgotten by ENT and neurosurgeons. It appears the method of approaching the sella (trans- nasal versus trans-septal) rather than the instrument used that helps determine the rate of nasal complications.
