Early Radiation-induced Leiomyosarcoma after Right Mastectomy in an 83-year old Woman

We present a case of an aggressive leiomyosarcoma presented five years after radiotherapy in a patient with breast cancer. We aim to highlight highlight the early presentation and aggressiveness of this entity and discuss the importance of clinical surveillance, early detection and management of similar cases. Our patient, a 83-year old woman, initially diagnosed with breast cancer, and managed with mastectomy and chest wall radiotherapy. Radiotherapy, presented five years later with a fast growing mass on the right chest wall which was found to be a high-grade leiomyosarcoma. She underwent a surgical excision of the lesion.RIS is a rare but serious complication after radiation therapy for breast cancer. Although usually it appears many years after treatment it can also be seen earlier during follow-up, making the time long surveillance for these patients essential.
