Introduction

In marked contrast to surgical pathology, routine use of fine needle aspiration cytopathology (FNAC) as a diagnostic tool has been in practice in the U.S. for little more than three decades. Yet, this technique is now indispensable in many clinical situations. Arguably, lesions involving the head and neck (H/N) region are one of the more common sites where this technique is applied. Thus, our decision to dedicate an issue of Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology to some of the recent advances in the cytopathology of this region.
