Idiopathic Lumbosacral Plexopathy Mimicking Nerve Sheath Tumor

The lumbosacral plexus is composed of ventral primary rami of the lumbar and sacral roots and supplies the lower extremity. Idiopathic lumbosacral plexopathy is a rare clinical entity. The underlying etiology and pathology is not clearly known. Clinical findings are asymmetrical leg pain and sensory symptoms followed by weakness and atrophy in the subsequent weeks or months. Electrophysiologic investigation and magnetic resonance imaging provide valuable information in the diagnostic work-up. A thorough understanding of the anatomy and a comprehensive differential diagnostic approach is crucial in the evaluation lumbosacral plexopathy.
