Why I spend all my time up to my eyeballs in Chinese medicine

There is no doubt that I spend the majority of my time everyday thinking about, studying, using and generally drowning myself in Chinese medicine. Don’t get me wrong – I do spend time and energy elsewhere. I love music. I garden. I hang out watching television and movies from time to time. I like to talk about the Portland food scene, and ethics and so on. But all of that just feeds my addiction to the universe of information I have devoted my life to – this particular way of looking at the earth, the heavens, and the human being in between. I am particularly passionate about the ongoing work here at Chinese Medicine Central. With my teaching position at NCNM and my clinical work at Watershed Wellness, many people ask, “Why?” Isn’t all of that enough? In short, no. The work I do at NCNM is sacred. I love my students, and I feel a deep sense of pride that I have been able to work at my alma mater since I graduated. My clinical work, of course, is what drives pretty much everything else I do. I love my clinic, I love to build it, I love everything about managing the many systems that make it run (mostly) smoothly. I cherish these things. But, there’s something special about Chinese Medicine Central. Let me explain.
